Portugal nightlife: Where to go and what to do

| April 9, 2016 | 0 Comments

It’s no secret that Portugal is a hot spot for tourists looking to get away from it all. There is endless possibility when it comes to bars and restaurants to choose from, nightclubs to dance all night in and alcoholic beverages to sample.

So if you’re heading to the popular sunny destination this year, or are preparing to settle in a new home purchased via portugalproperty.com, here’s where to go in two of the most popular tourist destinations in the country:

Nightlife in Lisbon

Best restaurant: Cultura do Hamburguer

If you’re looking for a delicious, filling meal at a reasonable price then this restaurant, tucked away on a quiet side street in the Bairro Alto area, is the place to be. Serving up homemade hamburgers with a Portuguese twist, this restaurant makes regular customers out of tourists visiting the area. If you’re not a meat fan though the restaurant’s Mediterranean salad actually comes highly recommended!

Best bar: BA Wine Bar do Bairro Alto

Known for its fantastic wine selection, this bar is a must visit if you’re staying in Lisbon but is so popular it’s recommended that you book a table. The bar also serves traditional Portuguese dishes if you’re feeling peckish, with a wide tapas selection, delicious regional meats and cheeses and also informative staff who will help with your wine choice – and you can try everything before you finally settle on a glass you like!

Best attraction: A Baîuca

If you’re looking for a sing song, A Baîuca is the place to be as locals take turn to perform to those seated in the venue and you can eat until 10pm. There is a minimum spend of €25 required per visit and it is recommended you reserve a table in advance but it’s well worth it for the experience.

Nightlife in the Algarve

Best restaurant: The Cockerel Country Kitchen

If you’ve been out in the Algarve for a couple of weeks and fancy a little taste of home, then this restaurant is definitely a good one to visit. English food, generous portions and attentive staff make The Cockerel Country Kitchen a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

Best bar: Fat Cat’s

If you’re looking for a good time, Fat Cat’s is the ideal location. It’s another British themed bar and restaurant, but when it comes to entertainment and the pleasure of having a few drinks with those you’re holidaying with nowhere else compares.

Entertainment could be one of many on the night you visit, from quizzes to comedians to seasonal activities – they put on a huge Easter egg hunt this year for kids! It’s great for families looking to relax in the evening and there’s even a pool for customers to make use of.

Best attraction: Explore Old Town Faro

Beautifully lit up at night, the old town of Faro is a maze of cobbled streets and rustic buildings to explore as the light fades in the evening. Expect to enjoy the smells from cafes on your walk round and perhaps stop off for a drink or two in one of the few bars or restaurants dotted around the town. It’s perfect if you’re looking for an authentic experience on your holiday, away from the hustle and bustle of the main strips in the Algarve.
